Does the library have children's books?
I am looking for whale books specifically.

We sure do! There are juvenile fiction and nonfiction books on the first floor.

And I see that we have If You Want to See a Whale in the fiction stacks, and the Encyclopedia of Marine Mammals in our oversized stacks, also on the first floor. If you're browsing through the juvenile nonfiction stacks, you'll find marine mammals under 599.5.

Depending on the child, you may find The Rise of Marine Mammals helpful.

And the Transylvania County Library has this nonfiction book about whales for kids.
